Game Developers Conference 2019
Gam Developers Conference in San Francisco is undoubtedly the biggest and one of the most important events of the year. Each year tens of thousands of experts and enthusiasts of the game industry gather to listen to talks of each other, to network and to hang out.
This years event started with a telephone interview with the Swiss Radio SRF while waiting for registration in the main hall of Moscone West. The whole article contains other interesting Switzerland related news of the event.
This year our submission for a panel got accepted with friends from different fields: Kathleen Yin (Co-founder, Serious Games Australia & New Zealand), Matthew Lee (Chair, IGDA Serious Games SIG) and Michael Angst (CEO, Eline Media) The panel “Keeping It Real: Authenticity, Anthropology and Artistry in Interactive Narrative” was scheduled on Tuesday, March 19 at 11:20am - 12:20pm in Room 3016, West Hall. Here is the abstract:
For the last 30 years, the entertainment has been the core value of the game industry. Yet in an ever-expanding market, merely being entertaining is not enough to remain competitive. Authentic experiences, moments that resonate with players, and inspiring learning through play are what let games rise above merely being fun, though how to do this is rarely discussed. In this panel, practitioners working on transformational games will discuss their secret sauce: how they blend research, conversations with communities, and collaborations with academia into emergent and embedded narratives, creating authentic experiences for AAA, indies, and beyond.
